FAQs
ASCF WORKSHOPS
Are workshops free? How much are they?
Workshop fee is $100. Payment goes towards our location rental, gear rental, film stock & process, actors, snacks, and much more.
What does the workshop include?
4 hr class taught by our instructor on how to load film, hands on experience working on an actual set, and a workshop short released weekly.
When do you host workshops?
We host them every Saturday from 11pm - 3:30pm. Occasional exceptions apply. Check out our workshop schedule here for available times. We hope to one day be able to offer a variety of dates and times but for now this is what works!
Where are the workshops located?
Right now we host workshops in two primary locations, The White Owl Studio in North Hollywood and the Kodak House in Hollywood.
Will you guys host outside of LA or on Zoom?
Due to the hands-on nature of our workshops we are unable to provide zoom classes or any other workshops not based in Los Angeles.
Where can I see the workshop shorts?
They are posted weekly on our instagram, here, and available for view and download on Vimeo
ASCF MEMBERSHIP
How do I become a member of the ASCF?
Join our club by attending 3 of our meetings, shooting a production (short film, music video, feature, etc.) on film, and using one of our current members!
Why do I need to use a current ASCF member on my project to join?
Our main goal at the ASCF is to provide a community for film lovers and be able to extend a helping hand in the filmmaking world wherever we can. All of our members are eager to work on projects that speak to them so we like to provide an opportunity for them to get creative and for you to gain exceptional talent on your crew. By having this as a requirement to join, we are able to keep our club aligned with our values of being supportive and communal towards independent filmmakers.
Why should I become an ASCF member?
Becoming a member grants you a super cool badge with our logo on it, opportunity to collaborate on more projects, your very own post on our instagram page promoting the work that earned your badge and an opportunity to be selected to screen your work at our annual film festival!
Can anyone hang out at the Cigar Warehouse?
Anyone 21+ is welcome to hang out with us on Saturdays at the Cigar Warehouse.
I don’t smoke, can I still join the ASCF?
We are the American Society of Cigars and Film and we still support our non-smoking celluloid friends which is why we are working on events/mixers outside of the Cigar Warehouse to be able to include them. For now, please reach out to us directly so we can work with you on how you can feel part of this community.
Is membership only available to DP’s?
It is available to Directors and DP’s only.
FILM FESTIVAL
What are the requirements for submission?
Any member may submit their project to our film festival as long as it was completed within the film festival year (beginning during the Autumn season of last year), shot on 16mm or 35mm, and is under 25 minutes long.
Do all projects submitted get selected to screen?
Our team reviews all submissions and selects the ones that best fit our program run time.
Where do I submit my film for the festival?
Submissions will be open in July and you can submit your project here.
SUPPORT
I love what you guys do. How can I support you?
Your support means everything to us! Promotion of workshops and word of mouth are great ways to support our community for free! We also have merchandise available for purchase which goes directly to funding our festival and workshops, or you can make a donation here.
Are you guys sponsored by anyone?
Yes! We are proud to say we are endorsed by Kodak and post house, Company 3. If you are a brand or company that would like to sponsor us, please send us an email, we’d love to work with you!
