ABOUT ME

ABOUT US

The ASCF (American Society of Cigars and Film) stands as a testament to the enduring allure and timeless artistry of celluloid filmmaking. Established in 2021 by visionary filmmaker Thomas Kuo, the club emerged from a serendipitous gathering of like-minded creatives, united by their shared passion for both cigars and the craft of filmmaking. It was amidst wisps of smoke and the crackle of burning embers that the idea to form a club dedicated to the preservation and celebration of celluloid film was ignited.

From its humble beginnings, the ASCF has steadfastly pursued its mission: to cultivate a new generation of filmmakers enthralled by the tangible magic of celluloid. Embracing the tactile nature of traditional filmmaking, members of the ASCF immerse themselves in the rich history and meticulous craftsmanship that define the medium. Guided by a reverence for the art form and a commitment to hands-on learning, the club provides a nurturing environment where aspiring filmmakers can hone their skills and channel their creative visions onto celluloid canvas.

As the ASCF flourished, so too did its repertoire of cinematic endeavors. From experimental shorts to ambitious features, each project undertaken by the club serves as a testament to their unwavering dedication to the art of filmmaking. Yet, it was with the inception of the ASCF Film Festival that the club truly cemented its place within the cinematic landscape. An annual celebration of celluloid craftsmanship, the festival showcases the collective talents of ASCF members while offering a platform for emerging filmmakers to share their stories with the world.

Through the lens of celluloid, the ASCF continues to shape the future of filmmaking, bridging the gap between tradition and innovation with each frame captured on film. As they venture forth into uncharted cinematic territory, the members of the ASCF remain bound by a shared belief in the enduring power of storytelling and the timeless allure of the silver screen. In a digital age where pixels reign supreme, the ASCF stands as a beacon of authenticity and a testament to the enduring legacy of celluloid filmmaking.

Jessi Spickard

Jessi first starred in Thom’s short “Traveler’s Fugue” where she was introduced to the art of filmmaking on film. With the wrap of a great project, Jessi began helping out during workshops and became very invested in the ASCF’s mission of making this medium more accessible. While her focus is in front of the camera, she is proud to assist others in their celluloid journey.

John Powers

Jack Meggers has been making films since 2012 and has been shooting on celluloid for the last three years. He began his career as an actor on the stages of New York City, then switched his focus to writing and directing films to develop his voice as an artist and follow his true passion, creating cinema. With a healthy dose of curiosity and a little help from the Celluloid Ashram (and a guy named Thom), he began exploring the world of creating with celluloid.
